The Laguna Beach Garden Club is excited to welcome our fourth speaker for the 2020/21 year!
Our December speaker, Corey Welles, a well-known horticulturist from Lotusland and life-long
biodiversity advocate, will discuss sustainable horticulture. He will discuss how to harness local
ecology to work with you, push for biodiversity at all levels of the garden-soil to insects and
birds, avoid chemicals and be very generous with organic materials, while developing habitat.
Mr. Welles is a graduate of the Santa Barbara City College Environmental Horticulture Program
with additional classes in botany, zoology, ornithology, entomology, marine biology, and leaf
litter analysis. He is certified by Soil Food Web inc. in compost tea production. He is also one
of the leading sustainable horticulture consultants advising such groups as UCBerkeley Botanic
Garden, Descanso Gardens, The Huntington Garden, Santa Barbara City and other local and
regional groups. His goal is to teach how to implement and customize sustainable systems when
partnering with the environment.

The Laguna Beach Garden club in accordance with CA state recommendations to reduce the rate
and risk of community spread of COVID-19, will be holding meetings with our speaker series
presenters remotely via Zoom. For more information about LBGC, our Speaker Series and how

The Laguna Beach Garden Club
The Non-profit Laguna Beach Garden Club, Inc. was founded in 1928 in beautiful Laguna
Beach, CA and celebrated its 91st anniversary in February. Its members support a wide variety of
projects related to education in gardening, horticulture, landscape and floral design,
conservation, ecology and bird life.
We are members of the California Garden Club Inc., which includes membership in the National
Garden Clubs Inc. We are incorporated and have well defined by-laws with a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit designation.
