14th Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the local Tibetan community will be hosting a special celebration in honor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday at the Neighborhood Congregational Church in Laguna Beach.

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and a globally respected advocate for compassion, nonviolence, peace, and human understanding.

A few significant highlights of His Holiness’s life and contributions include:

• Full name: Tenzin Gyatso
• Born: July 6, 1935, in Taktser, Tibet
• Recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama: At the age of two
• Residence in exile: Since 1959, based in Dharamshala, India, where the Tibetan community in exile is centered
• Nobel Peace Prize: Awarded in 1989 in recognition of his commitment to nonviolence, peaceful dialogue, compassion, and the promotion of human rights

His Holiness has also received many distinguished international honors, including the United States Congressional Gold Medal, numerous honorary doctorates from universities around the world, and various humanitarian and interfaith awards.
