BEAUTIFICATION COUNCIL
Mission
We of Laguna believe we have a beautiful, unique city. Truly, Nature has been good to us for a place to live with our hills, ocean, the weather and great views. Perhaps you look back that it was always this way but during the War our village upkeep was neglected. Out summer cottages were taken over by Marine families who could not keep up the maintenance as weeds and filth took over. Our city stafee was housed in the Water department Building. Marines weekends came, had thier picnics and left the debris where ever and especially along the streets and the Canyon Road. Residents of Rockledge tired of the trash along thier highway open lot created a mini park that is even more beautiful today. Inspired by this and Los Angeles Beautiful we created a chamber Committtee of fifteen persons at Andrees Restaurant in 1950. A clean up all over Laguna was begun, restore, paint, cut the weeds and then members actually walked the roads using the Pottery Shack truck to hall away the debris. Later the Marines of El Torro were given K.P. duty to keep the Canyon clean. Later is was posted that littering carried a $500.00 Fine. From a humble start, now over 100 major and minor projects have been accomplished and a copy of the more important accomplishments has been given to you. A major program was to inspire those building or remodeling to design and landscape in the unique Laguna Image. That is why you are here today as you have made homes and store more attractive. You will appreciate our years of work, to eliminate billboards and signs clutter. Aiding and inspiring the creation of our Window to Sea- Main Beach Park, Bluebird, Lang, Top of the World, Moulton Meadows, Aliso Park, etc. the creation of Eiler Land and now Forest Lane. Our commmittee of twenty, is still rolling with our never ending challenge for a more beautiful and clean Laguna.
